“Social Media Ethics and Law”
The 5th BEKAM Academy seminars were held at BEKAM on Saturday, November 19, with the topic "Social Media Ethics and Law" by Journalist-Author Yakup Köse and Istanbul Anatolian Social Media Association Founding President Bekir Tiryaki.
BEKAM continues to bring together expert researchers and participants who are interested in the subject by organizing an 8-week program with the title "DIGITAL LITERACY AND TRANSFORMATION SKILLS".
In the seminar held this week, Yakup Köse said, “People cannot see the treasure in front of their eyes. We came here through very difficult conditions and very difficult times. I recommend that you watch and read the life of Halil Kantarcı, who was a martyr on July 15, because he was in the role of the younger brother of the youth. His financial situation was good, he had children. On the night of the coup on July 15, he climbed on top of the tanks and drank the sherbet of martyrdom. We all use social media; Instagram, Twitter, TikTok… You should especially use TikTok. Today, TikTok is unfortunately the place that has received the most interaction and reached the most people for 5-6 months. It's also a window into how much our culture level has dropped. We are living in the heaviest period of disinformation, not only in terms of news, but also in terms of culture. There will be a big storm, a hurricane, and we are not prepared for it. The storm is approaching us both economically, culturally, spiritually and humanitarianly. How will you prepare yourself for this storm? In your own inner self… If you read well, comprehend well, and prepare well, you can come and go to many different places. In fact, we all live connected to a machine, when a patient in intensive care is unplugged, that plug disappears as soon as it is pulled. We would not die if we were unplugged while living today, but life would be meaningless to us. Our plug: the phone. We are all imprisoned in machines.
Life has changed after the pandemic. Now everything has started to be from home. People have become more and more dependent on technology. Children did not go to school for 3 years, if we say their psychological structure in 2 years, they lost 5 years. Phone and tablet do not fall from my children's hands. His mother, father, grandfather, uncle were all that phone call… If the tweet at night makes you jump from your bed, you are not free. Morality is the coagulated form of law. Law cannot be immoral, morality cannot be lawless.” he said.
Speaking in the continuation of the seminar, Bekir Tiryaki said, “The main thing to do through Social Media is to dominate the rich resources in the Middle East. Weapons are the last resort for them, first they process society through digital media. In our country, we have experienced these from time to time. We are in the first place with a rate of 49% among the countries exposed to disinformation in the world. The new world order, which shows a selfish, blackmailing, ruthless, interest-based attitude and behavior that does not care about the other in digital media, uses all methods and channels, especially mass media. They use all kinds of lies and disinformation to achieve their goal of no ethical or moral rules.” used the phrases.
The seminar ended after a question and answer session.
